Department of Neurology

Neurology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. The nervous system is a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It has two major divisions:

Central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord

Peripheral nervous system:

Neurologist treats disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, such as:

  • Headaches - Headaches are one of the most common neurological disorders and can affect anyone at any age.
  • Epilepsy and Seizures (Fits).
  • Stroke (Blood clots in brain).
  • ALS: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Brain degenerative disease).
  • Alzheimer's disease and Dementia (Memory problems).
  • Parkinson's disease (Movement disorders).
  • Spinal cord disorders.
  • Speech and language disorders.
  • Paresthesias of the hands, feet, legs, and arms (Burning sensation).

Stroke is a medical emergency as serious as a heart attack. Receiving medical attention as early as possible within the first three hours of a stroke can be the difference between life and death—a complete recovery or a lifetime of disability. Stroke comes in many forms and affects many systems of the body. Complete stroke treatment requires a comprehensive approach.

We are the best in the region to manage stroke.

Our neurologist has a great breadth of experience and delivers the highest quality, patient centered care, backed by extensive imaging facilities.

We provide a range of services with the quality and expertise necessary to help increase the chances of successful outcomes.

We offer

  • A dedicated stroke code response team with sophisticated brain imaging and monitoring equipment, including computerized tomography (CT).
  • A specialized stroke inpatient unit.
  • Outpatient services that range from risk assessment to strategies for preventing stroke recurrence.
  • Acute and ongoing rehabilitation programs including physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
  • Outreach programs such as community education, stroke screenings, and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel events.

Neurologists do not perform surgery. If one of their patients requires surgery, they refer them to a neurosurgeon.

Most importantly, we strive to be relationship focused. That means we treat you as a person, not a disease; we listen to you; we communicate with you; we take the time to understand the consequences your illness imposes on your daily life; we try to understand your needs, values, and priorities
